Netflix launches Flixtape: ‘It’s like a mixtape, but for Netflix’
Netflix has made it easier than ever for you to give your loved ones a glimpse at your digital soul with its new Flixtape service.
It’s simple to use: Netflix subscribers can just head over to the Flixtape website and start creating a playlist from scratch.
But, unfortunately you cannot bulk up your playlist with a hoard of titles, Netflix has chose to restricted the number of titles that can be added to it. The user can input only 6 movies or TV shows in one curated playlist. This part is important, so you’ll want to think long and hard about something that captures the feeling you’re trying to convey. These can easily be removed, and your Flixtape can be based on any theme you choose, from superhero movies to classic comedies, or even just a mashup of recent favorites. Netflix allows you to customize the Flixtape with some provided assets before you send it to your friends.
The playlists will work differently to their counterparts on music streaming services however, giving users a preview of the series or TV show instead of automatically playing full episodes.
Like the mixtapes of days past, Flixtapes are meant to be personal and customizable, says Netflix. Well Netflix has just announced a new platform that lets you sidestep that algorithm (at least momentarily) by creating your own Netflix playlists.
If you’re not sure where to start when building your own playlist, you can also ask Netflix to “inspire you” and it will randomly generate a playlist name along with a list of suggestions-kind of building on its popular recommendations.
