Netflix Nabs Rights to ‘How to Get Away With Murder’
A week before the Shondaland drama’s Season 2 premiere, Netflix announced today that it has nabbed streaming rights to the first season of ABC’s hit drama How To Get Away With Murder.
The deal was fully global and Netflix customers in the United States, Latin America and Canada are able to stream the entire 15-episode first season, reported Deadline. Every performance was better than the first, and it was Davis’ breakout role that capitulated How to Get Away With Murder to viewership records.
“Netflix is dedicated to bringing great entertainment to our members around the world, in both current and future markets”, said the company’s vice president of global TV Sean Carey.
As any fan of the series will tell you, Davis’ victory was more than deserving as she truly stole the show as the tough-as-nails criminal defense attorney Annalise Keating. With “How To Get Away With Murder” coming to Netflix, TV viewers whose interest has been piqued by the show’s recent round of awards buzz will have time to catch up in advance of its September 24 season two debut.
Created by Peter Nowalk, How to Get Away With Murder stars Viola Davis, Billy Brown, Alfred Enoch, Jack Falahee, Matt McGorry, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber, and Liza Weil. As the highest rated new series on the network last season, ABC will be looking to pull out all the stops to take “Murder” to the next level. Shonda Rhimes (“Scandal”, “Grey’s Anatomy”), Betsy Beers (“Scandal”, “Grey’s Anatomy”) and Bill D’Elia (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “The West Wing”) also serve as executive producers.
“How to Get Away with Murder” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1-channel surround sound.
