Netflix names the day in Spain, Portugal and Italy
The streaming service will make its debut in Spain on 20 October; Portugal will follow a day later on 21 October and Italy on 22 October.
Subscribers in each of the countries will be able to choose between three packages – basic, standard and premium, priced at €7.99, €9.99 and €11.99 respectively.
In addition to PCs, Netflix can be viewed on smart TVs, tablets, smartphones and on video game consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox, Wii and Nintendo 3DS, through any internet provider. These also include Google’s Chromecast and Apple TV.
As for what content Netflix will be offering, Italian subs will not be getting “House of Cards”, aired thanks to pre-existing deals on Rupert Murdoch’s Sky paybox, or “Orange Is the New Black”, which runs on Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset Premium service. Exclusive promotions will be available through its partnership with Vodafone, including Netflix subscriptions with the acquisition of fibre optic or 4G services. But they will get other more recent Netflix originals, including Marvel’s “Jessica Jones”, “Daredevil”, “Marco Polo”, and “Narcos“. The series is expected to be aired globally next year. The latest launch in these three countries adds to the already wide presence of the service across much of Europe, including Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Belgium, as well as most Nordic nations.
It launched in Japan this month and said it also plans to do so in South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
