Netflix’s Baz Luhrmann musical show ‘The Get Down’ trailer unveiled
The first full trailer promises heavy doses of disco, afros, hip hop and break-dancing, and the kind of visual spectacle with which the director of The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge is synonymous.
Those series are The Crown and The Get Down, and they’ll both arrive at some point in 2016.
On the day that it announced it would be expanding into 130 more countries, Netflix unveiled the trailer for one of its highest-profile future shows. Created by Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan in association with Netflix, this period drama musical has been scheduled to premiere later in 2016. His style is uniform across everything he’s produced and I can’t wait to see what he brings to his Netflix series The Get Down. The relative unknown immediately won us over with his charming, moving performance, and had us eager to find out just what he was going to do next.
“I’ve been obsessed with the idea of how a city in its lowest moment, forgotten and half destroyed, could give birth to such creativity and originality in music, art and culture”.
In February, 52-year-old Luhrmann signed a deal with Sony Records to start his own music label, Bazmark, which would be home to his hugely successful soundtracks. Shameik Moore, Jimmy Smits, Giancarlo Esposito and Jaden Smith are among the notable names who will star in The Get Down.
