Netflix signs Miranda Sings
Miranda Sings is coming to Netflix!
Of course, as it will be distributed by Netflix, Haters Back Off won’t be a TV series per se, but it will still have the production values and format of a typical cable show. Ballinger-Evans loosely based the persona of Miranda off people she had met in college.
She’s the self-parodying singer, actor, magician, dancer…
She announced the news in character on Thursday (Jan. 14) with a video titled “I’M PREGNANT”.
Watching Miranda sing can be painful, but at the same time, her undying confidence is inspiring.
Ballinger-Evans has been working to land a scripted series for Miranda Sings for a while now, and the proposed series received two commitment offers before landing at Netflix.
Haters Back Off has been developed by Ballinger-Evans, her brother Chris Ballinger, along with writing team Perry Rein and Gigi McCreery, known for their work on Friends, Wizards of Waverly Place Becker and See Dad Run, according to EW. Last year, Grace Helbig and Todrick Hall got their own television series on E! and MTV, respectively. The YouTube series largely involves Miranda talking into the camera in a voice just this side of suicide-inducing, although she also sometimes edits herself into music videos, like Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off“.
