Netflix users can now download TV shows and films to watch offline
Netflix has absolutely revolutionized the way many of us watch TV and movies, but there has been one big, glaring issue with the service prior to now.
Netflix’s new download feature is included in all plans and available for Android and iOS phones and tablets. The offline playback is now available for users with all Netflix plans- which is a good new.
When rival service Amazon Prime Video announced offline viewing in 2015, Netflix Chief Product officer Neil Hunt said, “I still don’t think it’s a very compelling proposition”. Still, that’s an improvement over nothing, especially for fans of Orange is the New Black, Narcos, and The Crown, other Netflix series available today.
The feature is not now available for all movies and TV shows but, from what we’ve seen, a good majority of popular shows and movies available for download.
According to Netflix’s Help Center page, “you’ll want to delete” downloaded titles before attempting to download new content.
The Los Gatos, California, company is promising to continue to adding more titles to its offline roster. It’s a feature every Netflix subscriber will likely take advantage of and should take advantage of. He did imply, however, that the ability to download content from Netflix would initially be aimed at developing countries with less reliable Wi-Fi service.
The shows approved for offline viewing will have a download icon next to each episode. “Your favorite stories are now available for download any time”.
Once you’ve downloaded something it shows up in another section of the new app entitled “My Downloads”.
