Nets to offer Tyler Johnson $50 million contract
That’s because Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical has reported that Johnson has agreed to sign at four-year, $50 million offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets. Johnson shot 49 percent last season, up from 42 percent in his rookie year. Johnson has career averages of 1.6 assists per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, and 7.4 points per game. The Heat would account for Johnson’s actual salary on their cap, whereas for the Nets, he counts at his average salary ($12.5 million) all four years.
The contract breakdown, designed so the Heat will not match, will be $5.6 million for the first year and $5.9 million for the second year. Behind that shooting, Johnson was an efficient scorer last season, posting a strong. 380 from deep – in 24 minutes last season. Brooklyn also signed power forward Trever Booker and center Justin Hamilton this summer.
Because now the former Skyforce star is set to become a 50 million dollar man. Still, for Pat Riley, this news can’t be all that welcoming, as he has yet another tough decision on his hands, while trying to court the best free agent available, while his franchise player appears to be scorned.
Dwayne Wade took to Twitter to congratulate Johnson.
If the Heat choose not to match, the Nets will add to their youth movement by still getting a player that will help them in the short term. If Miami matches the offer, Johnson’s cap hit would be $18.8 million in the 2018-19 season and $19.6 million in the 2019-20 season. If he does indeed end up with the Nets, Johnson will join Jeremy Lin as newcomers in the backcourt.
