Nevada fishing report, October 1, 2015
Danika Bay-Waugh, 13, from Rotorua, with one of the 18 fish their family group caught, a 2.1kg rainbow, with one member remarking he could only recall one better Opening Day. Catfish action has been good as well.
Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been biting in the mornings and evenings. Below the dam: all species poor.
Walleye – Good: Anglers are picking up a few walleyes when targeting yellow bass. Warm temperatures are keeping the bluegill and bass bite quite active. Catfishing is very good using noodles baited with hot dogs soaked in strawberry Kool Aid, chicken livers, night crawlers, cut shad or Catfish Charlie. Trout, bass and crappie were all hitting well.
TANEYCOMO: Clear, low power generation.
Park users should be aware that shower and restroom facilities will close for the season the second week of October.
Fish & Game Officer Matt Osborne says anglers on Lake Tarawera were generally “pretty happy” given the nice day and the fact that most caught trout, and good numbers of fish.
The chance of catching a fish worth $25,000 was generating a “real buzz” among anglers but by the afternoon no one, it seems, had hooked a ‘red tag fish’. Outlook: Wayne’sSporting Goods reports: walleyes good on jigs with night crawlers along dropoffs; white bass, wipers good trolling crankbaits; catfish good on dip bait in chum holes. Medium-running crankbaits and lipless crankbaits also are catching bass in the major coves off secondary points.
Conditions remain much the same as last week, though good weather over the weekend improved the bass action. Carolina-rig worms and lizards are the preferred baits. Night crawlers were the most productive bait for all species. Crappies are reported as good-sized, but the numbers are not impressive; use live minnows. Larger walleye are being caught in 10-12 feet of water. Outlook: Coffey County reports: smallmouth bass good on plastic baits along the riprap. Docks from the city park dock to the outlet have been doing OK on yellows. Crappie are beginning to move back into the brush. Rooster Tails also were working well for the trout, and, with the warmer weekend temperatures, the bass were hitting good. Haymeadow and Dacey reservoirs were both fishing well for trout and bass. Evening fishing has been best. Cooling temperatures will change things. Fish the rock points that shoot out into the main basin of West Lake, Pillsbury, Fort Dodge, or Gull Point. The catfish have slowed, but a few channel cats may be caught near bridges and similar structure on worms.
