Neville opens doors to Valencia fans on first day
According to a report in the Daily Star, new acting Valencia manager Gary Neville has urged the Spanish club to sign Leicester City’s free scoring striker Jamie Vardy in January.
However, Valencia salvaged a point four minutes from the final whistle when Paco Alcacer showed a great touch to bring down a long ball forward on his chest before taking two defenders out of play and teeing up Santi Mina to slam home the equaliser.
“It would have been unfair on the players”.
Gary Neville has thanked everybody for their messages of support after he was unveiled in Spain as Valencia’s new manager.
McClaren said: “You have to adapt quickly and I think he has an advantage in that Phil has been there, so that might fast-track things a little better”. They deserve a chance to play for Valencia football club.
He said: “The only way to approach a football job will be as if it’s a permanent job, I don’t believe you can make short-term decisions, I don’t believe in working that way”.
“There are a lot of young players in the squad, who need time to mature, and need faith and belief for them to grow and develop”.
On Wednesday the Spanish side announced that Neville would replace Nuno as the manager at the Mestalla, handing the England assistant a deal that lasts until the remainder of the season.
“To add to that, my family will move over here permanently”, he continued.
When asked what Neville the pundit would have made of another man being appointed in such a fashion, he replied: “I would question it as a neutral observer and would be sceptical, wanting to be proven otherwise”.
“I understand I have to prove myself to the Valencia fans and the players”.
“It’s a very hard place to manage”, Koeman said. “I wanted time to learn”, he said.
The Dutch tactician, whose contract with the Red Devils runs until the summer of 2017, personally contacted Neville to wish him well in his new job in Spain.
To say his ‘credibility within football’ would have been destroyed had he not taken the job is refreshingly honest but not necessarily true.
Valencia are ninth in La Liga with 19 points from 13 games.
United legend Neville was a surprise appointment at the Mestalla, and while there has been generally positive reaction from across the game, there have also been voices rightfully urging caution.
Moreover, club president Florentino Perez is expected to receive more calls for his resignation after the administrative failings that have left Madrid’s Copa del Rey hopes in tatters. We talk about actions and what we’re going to do.
