New Blue Jay David Price to Start on Monday

So Price is headed to a new team, the Blue Jays, at the trade deadline for the second year in a row.

The acquisition of Revere gives the Blue Jays an element of speed to go with their endless amount of power. Ben Revere had been rumoured to be on the Blue Jays radar and the move has just been confirmed just 45 minutes before the trade deadline.

“There were reports a bunch of times today that we had a deal done and we weren’t even talking (to the Phillies)”, he said. Toronto’s playoff drought is the longest in the majors, with its last trip coming in 1993, when Joe Carter’s home run won the World Series. “Alex isn’t letting up, I know that”, manager John Gibbons said.

Anthopoulos said he didn’t start the week expecting to make such a big splash. “I hope we start winning games and I hope everyone across Canada gets really excited”.

Toronto (52-51) finds itself six games back of the Yankees for first in the American League East and two behind the Minnesota Twins for the second wild card spot.

Lowe pitched in 34 games for Seattle this season, developing into a consistent eighth-inning option.

Lowe has a 1.00 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in 36 innings this season. Lowe was a non-roster invite to Mariners’ spring training and started the season in the minors before being called up in early May.

He’s a demon on the base paths and can be brought around to score from first anytime a ball gets down into a gap, not to mention his ability to put himself in scoring position through base stealing. The club has acquired outfielder Ben Revere from the Phillies, the teams announced Friday afternoon.

After obtaining slugging shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from Colorado, the Blue Jays tried to shore up their rotation by adding Price, likely the top remaining starting pitcher on the market. They’re definitely getting prospects back with the Cole trade and my trade.

“I think some guys might have taken some before I got here, but I was completely OK with that”, the 29-year-old lefty said. “Everybody is sad to see me go, but it’s also happy that I’m going to a team that could be contending for a playoff spot”.

A noted fan of the popcorn at Rogers Centre, Price already had a gift awaiting him: six bags of popcorn were placed inside his locker, along with a welcome note from the team.
