New Case of Ebola Identified in Liberia
Francis Kateh told AP on Friday the boy, a resident of the eastern Paynesville district of Monrovia, was taken to the Ebola treatment unit late Thursday.
This is the second time Ebola is resurfacing in Liberia after the country was declared free of the virus. Officials are tracing those the patient has come into recent contact with.
“There is one confirmed case”, said World Health Organization spokesman Tarik Jasarevic, without providing further details.
Thousands died at the height of the epidemic in the west African nation past year.
The west African country had been declared free of the disease in May, but a new case was reported in June.
The virus killed more than 4,800 in Liberia, according to the WHO.
Friday’s news comes just days after the Médecins Sans Frontières announced the last known Ebola case in Guinea, a three-week old girl, had recovered.
The country had been declared free of the virus on 3 September 2015.
Neighboring Sierra Leone celebrated being free of the disease earlier this month.
