New CDC Precautions to Avoid Sexually Transmitted Zika Virus
“Up to now, the diagnosed cases of Zika virus in Spain … don’t risk spreading the virus in our country as they are imported cases”, it said.
The guidance also suggests the men might consider abstaining or using condoms even with a partner who isn’t pregnant.
The Governor said there are now 12 cases of the Zika virus in the state and that all are travel-related.
The finding adds to concerns that Zika, which is predominately spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, could also be transmitted by other means – particularly sex.
The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department Thursday confirmed to WFAA’s sister station in Austin, KVUE, that a man in Travis County has been diagnosed with the Zika virus.
Zika, which is spread primarily by mosquitoes, has spread to 26 countries in North and South America, as well as parts of the Caribbean.
One of the cases was in 2015, the other two were in 2016. But in the United States, almost all the reported cases are imported from travelers. This link has not been confirmed but is considered a very strong possibility and has prompted health officials to take cautionary steps to protect fetuses from the virus. Brazil said it was sending more than 500,000 personnel out to clean up mosquito breeding grounds and advise people about the disease.

The issue is that many people who contract Zika virus might not know they have it. Only 1 in 5 people who have Zika develop symptoms, and those symptoms are typically mild: fatigue, aches, pain, and a skin rash. The officials from the Dallas health department said that a traveler came back from a Zika-affected country and passed the disease to a partner.
