New “Daily Show” Host Talks Nerves, and ‘Jewish Yoda’ Jon Stewart
Trevor Noah has a bit of everything planned for his first week on The Daily Show, from music to comedy to politics.
Hart will be on Monday, when Noah debuts as Jon Stewart’s replacement.
Noah has been out in force lately, trying to familiarize viewers with his style and personality before he takes up residence in Jon Stewart’s old seat.
Tuesday’s edition will feature Whitney Wolfe, founder and chief executive officer of Bumble, while Republican presidential candidate Christie will be the interviewee Wednesday and musician Ryan Adams is set to visit the the show Thursday.
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah premieres this coming September 28 on Comedy Central – “Same chair”.
“It depends on the city”, Noah said. That’s why you don’t see perennial nominee Saturday Night Live competing here – that show went up against Drunk History, Key & Peele and Portlandia, and the victor, Inside Amy Schumer. You’ll remember that Trump and Stewart have something of a rivalry, mostly friendly and occasionally a little hostile.
“So they will watch – or not, because my mom, she always says, “I get my amusing from you personally, so I have no time for these ‘shared” shows'”.
I would imagine there has been something of a different vibe at the standup shows Noah has performed since the announcement last March that he would be taking over The Daily Show.
The booking may signal both a generational shift for “The Daily Show” – Stewart is 52 while Noah is 31 – and an interest in Silicon Valley culture.
“I regret that some of the tweets weren’t better”, he says. “[That kind of criticism] is one of the most hard things to go through”, Noah said. And trust your discomfort.’ The most awesome thing that Jon did was he didn’t give me a mandate.
Noah said he hopes to continue doing standup alongside The Daily Show. “The world is still the world, the news is still the news, it’s just how we disseminate that information that we get from it”, said Noah.
