New DOTA 2 Heroes Revealed at The International 2016
At the global 2016’s All Star match-a just-for-fun contest between a random assortment of players-Valve have revealed Dota 2’s new hero. And every year, Valve tries to do something cool with its coverage.
As Rock Paper Shotgun notes, a hero based on Sun Wukong from the Chinese novel Journey To The West was first conceptualized for the Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos mod, Defense of the Ancients. Maybe in the near future, a holograph of your doctor might be giving you an examination in your house or somewhere else convenient.
The hero will be available in-game from 23 August, and you can find out more about Underlord on the Dota 2 wiki.
On the bright side, I no longer want to play Slark.
The Monkey King is a popular concept in Moba games, having manifested in some form in Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, and Smite. Which states that the item is, indeed, the Monkey King’s weapon in the game.
Valve had indicated it would push in this direction once the Dota 2 roster of heroes matched the size of the first Dota’s.
As for the Monkey King, he will be the part of the New Journey update which is scheduled to release sometime this fall. This year’s prize pool is more than $20 million, an esports record, with the winner’s share being more than $9 million, also a record. Or is Dota 2 “done”?
