New Dropbox App For Windows 10 Supports Facial Recognition
Microsoft and Dropbox announced a partnership in November 2014 and have since released multiple integrations.
Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s developer platform, said: “Microsoft is excited to partner with Dropbox to bring more cloud storage and productivity services to Windows 10 across PC and tablets”.
Building its app on the Windows 10 platform means that Microsoft customers running the OS can have a seamless experience when using the desktop client or app on PC or tablet.
Dropbox for Windows 10 will allow users to drag and drop files into their Dropbox from Windows File Explorer, this even works between folders within an app, making it easier to move and copy files.
– Quick Access to Recent Files: Using Jump List, all you have to do is right-click on the Dropbox app icon in your taskbar. Just drag them into the Dropbox window and they are uploaded automatically.
Quick search – No need to click the search icon, just start typing and the app will begin looking up files.
The new app promises improved performance, and also takes advantage of Microsoft’s Windows Hello password-free biometric authentication, allowing you to use “either your face, fingerprint, or iris instead of your password to unlock your Dropbox”. Download the app from the link below and it will update with the newest version when it’s rolled out this week. Dropbox said it will be rolling out the app for Windows 10 Mobile “soon” but wouldn’t share any timing details beyond “early 2016”. And lastly, Dropbox is bringing some a feature that typically live only in its web view to Windows 10: you can add comments to your files and @ mention a shared user to bring their attention to something you’re working on together. At least for now, the company plans to keep developing both apps in tandem.
