New England Patriots: 3 storylines to watch in week 1
That contest featured the first-ever meeting between Tom Brady and Deshaun Watson.
“I don’t want to bring on any drama this year”, Brady said, two days before he will lead the team against the Houston Texans in the season opener.
“Alex and I, we work together”, Brady said when asked about Guerrero’s current arrangement with the Patriots. His production has not decreased, but some are beginning to wonder how much longer Brady will be playing football. “I’ve learned that peoples’ opinion doesn’t really matter”. So, both offenses are sure to be high powered and a lot of fun to watch.
“I think with Brady a long-term extension wouldn’t necessarily make sense because you don’t know how long-term it is going to be”.
That trend will continue when they open the season against one another at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gillette Stadium. They’re really well coached.
The Texans should be better with Watson back in the fold, and it’d be a major disappointment if they weren’t at least in contention for a playoff spot in a division lacking a powerhouse. “That’s where our focus is”.
While the anticipation of seeing how Watt will perform in his first regular-season game since October 8 is great, Watt insists that after everything he’s been through he’s simply savoring every moment instead of worrying what might happen.
“That doesn’t surprise me at all”, guard Shaq Mason said following Wednesday’s practice. I think a lot of keeping things in perspective. “Personally, I’m going to have a chip on my shoulder, but I think it’s bigger than that”. I’m predicting an overtime game and the new kicker for the Cowboys, Brett Maher, with the game-winner, 23-20 Dallas over Carolina. “So, we try to morph the offense to what we all do a good job at and those things change over the course of the season”. Not only does Watson have Comeback Player of the Year aspirations after his torn ACL, many expect Watson to compete for MVP this season. “They want to talk about a lot of drama”, Brady said. “He’s a great player, one of the great players in the league”. “Phillip (Dorsett) and Chris (Hogan) obviously I played a lot with them a year ago, Cordarrelle (Patterson) is new and he’s done some good things, obviously, the reason why he’s here”. We’re all going to be learning on the fly and we’ve got to build as the season goes. Every week we want to build on things and there’s no way to replicate what we’re about to go up against it. And until you get them into the game and [they] take some hits and they have to plant and make sharp turns and all of those kinds of things, you don’t know if they’re really back.
Well, the man who probably knows Brady better than anyone else – New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick – has seen just how intense Brady can get.
