New England Patriots: Texans vs. Patriots- Game recap
The Patriots rightfully celebrated the return from injury of tight end Rob Gronkowski on Sunday night, but it was the New England defense that left the most lasting, unforgettable impression. Hoyer was injured on the play and left the game.
The 11-2 Patriots moved ahead of Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC East. Meanwhile, the 6-7 Texans are battling to keep the top spot in the AFC South. They are again the number one seed in the AFC after beating the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football. The Texans are a talented team with superstar players on both sides of the ball. They played him some at outside linebacker and moved (Whitney Mercilus) down inside.
Keshawn Martin caught three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Sunday’s 27-6 win over the Texans.
Brady threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns and the Patriots snapped a two-game skid and clinched a playoff berth with a 27-6 win over the Houston Texans. “The organization, myself just rehabbing really hard and everything checked out, everything felt good, so I was good to go”. Texans coach Bill O’Brien says Brady was just doing what he always does.
While it’s obvious for anyone watching Brady throw the ball No. 87’s way, the quarterback spoke of the great trust he has in Gronkowski’s ability to make plays. Gronkowski had a 45-yard catch on the second drive that set up New England’s first score. The Patriots’ good fortune is such that the most risky team they could face in the AFC is the one that might not make the postseason at all: the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I think in particular the White play it goes back to the whole issue of the angle of the camera and was his heel actually on the white or was his toe on the ground and his heel above the white, how close it was”, Belichick said on Monday’s conference call. Belichick and his staff implemented a strong game plan to takeaway the Texans’ premier players, and the Patriots’ players executed it with near perfection.
The touchdown was Gronkowski’s 10th of the season, putting him in a class of his own (if he wasn’t already). Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt (99) celebrates a stop against the New England Patriots during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Houston. The change of pace back gave the Patriots the extra boost they needed on third and long, an attribute which only became more valuable to the club after the early exit of Julian Edelman who suffered a broken foot against the Giants. There is some that we can all look at and say, ‘Yeah it’s this, ‘ or, ‘Yeah it’s that.’ But those ones that are just kind of a really close call and a toss-up… If they can’t figure something out, the Patriots will be out of luck in the playoffs and doomed for an early exit in what will be looked back upon as perhaps Brady’s second greatest season of all time.
