New England Patriots will cut Reggie Wayne
Wayne played the first 14 seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts, who decided not to re-sign him in 2015. Keep in mind Zolak is a notorious Patriots homer who’s not exactly objective on Pats-related matters.
Of course, Schefter went on to note that Wayne would be willing to play again if the situation is right, but if that wasn’t the Patriots, it’s likely that he has a very specific situation in mind.
It isn’t very often that a player asks for his release from a team as talented as the Patriots.
Expect to see Wayne latch onto a new team in the near future, even though this was a big surprise to say the least.
Patrtiots coach Bill Belichick explained that the parting was mutually agreed upon. Obviously, those numbers aren’t huge, but he was still able to show something to the teams that could consider signing him.
Running back Jonas Gray, who was projected to be in the backfield on opening night with LeGarrette Blount suspended, has been released, according to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. So they’re now forced to rely on veteran defensive linemen Kendall Langford and rookie Henry Anderson, a late third-round draft choice out of Stanford, to help fill the void. Saunders – a receiver and kick returner – was brought to the team in the days leading up to the Giants exhibition, and he caught three passes for 16 yards in the game.
In the National Football League, the last cut can be the deepest. He caught 82 touchdowns and was one of Peyton Manning’s favorite weapons in Indy. The last time the Patriots lost back-to-back season-opening games was the first two years of the Belichick era, 2000 and 2001.
