New ‘exercise pill’ replace working out
Chief researcher Ismail Laher, professor in the pharmacology and therapeutics department at the University of British Columbia, told The Washington Post, “I want to be clear that really there is no way to replace routine exercise with an exercise pill”.
“Remarkably… exercise pills are still at the starting line and have a long road ahead before they gain clinical application”.
Thanks to the modern miracle that is science, researchers may soon be ready to release an exercise pill that gives you all the benefits of going to the gym without the sweat, smell, and moaning and groaning that generally accompanies a tough workout.
“Although nothing can fully substitute for physical exercise, candidate exercise pills that have emerged in recent years may be an attractive alternative for people who are unable to undertake regular exercise because of medical conditions such as obesity, amputations, spinal injuries, metabolic diseases, and musculoskeletal or cardiovascular conditions”, the paper reads.
The four members had a muscle biopsy prior and then afterward practicing and, in the wake of examining the subtle elements, the analysts found that practice makes more than 1,000 novel atomic changes in skeletal muscles.
Currently, the teams’ focus resides in strengthening muscles and lowering cholesterol, but the form and function of the proposed medication may continue to evolve as scientists evaluate the needs of their patients. Hoffman is co-author of a paper on the results that was published Friday in the journal Cell Metabolism. “But not target the able-bodied person who can exercise”, he said.
An exercise pill would mimic those effects.
But experts say no pill can reproduce all of the benefits of exercise. “However, we expect that as we gain an improved understanding of the molecular mechanism by which exercise induces beneficial effects, we will likely gain increased confidence in creating exercise pills that have minimal side effects with much improved efficacy”.
