New female Ranger featured in ad amid controversy
Sue Fulton, a 1980 West Point graduateheading up a group of other women graduates, has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for Russell’s file saying years after being part of the first female class at West Point, men still don’t get it.
Capt. Kristen Griest and 1st Lt. Shaye Haver are the first female soldiers to graduate from the school for the special operations unit.
A new report in PEOPLE Magazine claims that the graduation of the United States Army Ranger School’s first two female cadets was rigged from the start.
As per usual on Twitter, the subsequent tweets fell to both sides of the issue. Recommendations about allowing women in service jobs that are now still closed to them are expected by the end of the month, according to the Washington Post. “At least one will get through”. They were also pulled out of hard portions, like patrols, and allowed to repeat them.
Multiple unconfirmed sources told Keating that an unnamed general told subordinates that “a woman will graduate Ranger School” back in January.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Republican Rep. Steve Russell is asking the Secretary of the Army for paperwork documenting the women’s performance. “In order to ensure that the Army retains its ability to defend the nation, we must ensure that our readiness is not sacrificed”.
The West Point women say the Ranger’s Code is similar to West Point, adding that the congressman’s implication that the female Rangers were in some way dishonest goes against their core values.
