NEW INFORMATION: 3 Wisconsin sisters missing in northwest Wyoming
Authorities in the Teton County, Wyoming, area are saying the auto of three missing sisters has been found.
According to detectives, the black 2008 Saturn Vue with Wisconsin license plates was found at the Swift Creek trailhead near Granite Creek Hot Springs in Bridger-Teton National Forest on Wednesday afternoon.
Search crews are scouring the area looking for clues.
The Teton County Emergency Management Office issued an alert Wednesday morning asking for help from its county residents in finding 25-year-old Megan Margaret Andrews-Sharer, 22-year-old Erin Elizabeth Andrews-Sharer and 16-year-old Kelsie Moriah Andrews-Sharer.
Lt. Slade Ross of the Teton County Sheriff’s Office said the three left for their trip June 28 and were to return Tuesday. Their hometown wasn’t identified.
Iverson said the three are experienced backcountry trekkers and that they had talked to a USA Forest Service employee prior to hiking into the wilderness with their camping gear. Besides foot searches, there are dog teams, searchers on horseback, and a helicopter. Two three-person teams were dropped in at higher country upslope from the trail entrance to camp overnight and resume the search Thursday, she said.
According to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Megan and her sisters grew up in Glendale, Wis. Megan worked at a Methodist church in nearby Whitefish Bay, and recently resigned to work on a farm in Wyoming.
“There are a number of scenarios of what could have happened, but we don’t know until they’re found. They’re incredibly smart girls and resourceful girls – used to being outside”, Pastor Susan Patterson-Sumwalt said.
