New iOS 12 Features Let Users Limit Screen Time, Reduce Interruptions
In January, two major Apple shareholders urged the company to address the issue of “smartphone addiction” among children.
Apple is not slowing down when it comes to AR development, as evidenced by ARKit 2 and all the new features coming with it.
Performance: iOS will feel fater than ever.
The first examples of iOS and macOS converging will come in this year’s update to the Mac operating system, called Mojave.
Apple has unveiled macOS Mojave at its WWDC 2018 conference in San Jose, California.
The change, to be included in Apple’s iOS 12, will allow iPhones – which have contained NFC-capable chips since the iPhone 6 and 6s were introduced in 2014 – to unlock doors with similar NFC chips as well as talk to certain transit agencies to pay fares, the report said. iOS 12 is getting some meaningful updates that will help you be more productive and potentially less distracted by your device. Finally. Yes. This is not a drill. That way, whenever you activate your iPhone’s screen to see what time it is, it won’t show you all of the notifications that end up distracting you when you should be sleeping. Screen time is recorded and the app limit will notify you once your time is up.
Animoji: There are four new Animojis: a new tiger, koala, t-rex, and your own Animoji: Memoji. Among them: automatic workout detection, so the watch will still track your workouts when you forget to start it yourself, as well as new modes for hiking and yoga tracking. Kind of like Snapchat.
Apple is making beta versions of its software available to developers, but download them at your own risk and certainly don’t put them on devices you rely on for daily use.
You can also use Animoji, AR Stickers, and Memoji during Group FaceTime calls. It will identify objects like flowers and the people you love, as well as locations your photos were taken.
For You can also recognize people in images and provide suggestions as to who you should share images with or what photos to share back with another person. Siri can even automatically suggest shortcuts every day based on your habits.
You can now assign phrases to Siri with other apps to help the digital assistant answer commands faster. With a single app for all machines, Mac, iPad and iPhone users will get new features at the same time. Animoji can be created to look similar to users’ real-world appearance, or with a variety of digital accouterments like hats and costumes. Adobe will also be participating, supporting Lightroom Creative Cloud in the store.
Apple would clearly like its new mobile operating system to take augmented reality mainstream. It now has a new Browse section and on the iPad, there’s a new sidebar to make browsing around in the app easier. You can now search for your favourite channels, news sources, and more. Previously, it allowed free trials of subscription-based apps, but now any app can offer a free trial. Or are you happy with the new features and the performance optimizations that Apple is focusing on this year?
Look for the “enroll your iOS device” link and tap on it.
The slew of tools includes updates to “Do Not Disturb” and new ways to manage notifications. The update will be available to developers today, with a general public release coming later in the year.
