New iPhone 8 rumors point towards USB-C port
Another day, another rumour about what we can expect from the iPhone 8.
Apple is said to have something special planned for the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and rumors have circulated for months speculating on different features. They said Apple is going with a flexible curved OLED display for the new iPhone as well, and mentioned the Lightning port’s demise nearly as an after thought.
If anything, I see Apple putting a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box which makes much more sense than changing the connector once again.
A recent report has claimed that Apple is going to drop the lightning ports in favor of the USB Type-C connectors on its newer iPhones. Or how you can unload those Lightning-enabled headphones you may have bought in response to the loss of the 3.5-mm jack in the iPhone 7.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone will reportedly feature a curved screen – and will cost about $1,000. USB Type C ports are being widely used in the mobile phone markets around the globe. The same report also adds that the next iPhone “would also do away with a physical home button”. The Apple-designed Lightning port has been the standard on the company’s smartphones since the iPhone 5 launched in 2012.
At least one analyst is not convinced that Apple will ditch Lightning on its next iPhones, but he does believe USB-C will be in the mix. Samsung, as many of you already know, uses curved OLED in its own phones, and all models of the Galaxy S8 are said to ship with curved displays later this year. OLED is more power efficient and shows color better than the LCD screens Apple has used since the very first iPhone.
Apple created some waves previous year when they removed almost every legacy port on their MacBook Pro opting for all USB-C ports.
A USB-C cable can handle power, data and video on a single cable with a single connector. For one, USB-C is capable of transmitting stuff faster than nearly any other standard around – and that includes USB 3.
