New Lumia Flagships to Launch With Windows 10 Mobile Threshold 1
The Lumia 950, 950 XL and Surface Pro 4 may not be the only devices that will be released during this event.
It’s widely believed that Microsoft has been working on the still unofficial Surface Pro 4, but what can consumers reasonably expect the rumored device to feature?
The new Surface 4 Pro might not be too different in terms of design, since Microsoft has taken into consideration the businesses that have invested in charging stations.
The event follows a largely disappointing turnout for Microsoft at IFA Berlin earlier this month.
No official word yet on when Microsoft will formally introduce the Surface Pro 4. It’s likely that the company will increase the display resolution and will make the device a little slimmer and lighter. Microsoft will release Threshold 2 for both desktops and mobiles, though since it has not yet officially launched Windows 10 Mobile, the Threshold 2 RTM will be the operating system’s first official public build. The prevailing duopoly by Apple Inc. and Google Inc. hasn’t discouraged Microsoft, however.
Microsoft has recently revamped its strategy for handset business and will launch smartphones for the high-end, business and entry-level segments, said industry sources, adding that the moves nevertheless may not spur as much growth as anticipated.
According to a report by WinBeta, Microsoft’s new Lumia smartphones to be launched in October will ship with a Threshold 1 build of Windows 10 Mobile.
The Lumia 550 should pack a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which should feature LED flash, autofocus and video recording, while on the front, there should be a 1.2-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The smaller phone will have a 5.2-inch screen, and the XL will have a 5.7-inch one.
The handset is expected to cost around €120 ($120), but the retail price has yet to be confirmed by Microsoft.
