New macOS Mojave Features That Will Change How You Use Your Mac
The Mac App Store gets a complete redesign this year with a new look and a curation of content that makes it easier for Mojave users to find the right app. The update will be available to all the MacBooks debuted since mid-2012, and Mac Pro models released since 2012.
The Dark Mode, as mentioned by Apple’s SVP Craig Federighi, is inspired by how desert appears in the night. Users can now also put time limits on the certain app after which they will be notified if they use that particular app for more duration.
CarPlay update – In iOS 12, Apple CarPlay will support third-party navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze.
With all these cool new features, Apple also doesn’t want you to just spend all your time on your phone. Further, an API will be available to let developers implement the Dark Mode in their apps.
One other new feature of MacOS Mojave is desktop stacks, which automatically categorizes files on the desktop into stacks which you can go through to declutter your Mac’s desktop space.
The Preview Pane now shows all of a file’s metadata, making it easier to manage media assets. What the stack feature does is that it stacks all files with similar type, or files with same dates in a stack on the desktop.
Breaking from its high country nomenclature, Apple has titled its new operating system macOS Mojave, and it aims to merge popular iOS features with the Mac ecosystem, clean up the desktop view, and improve security protections. With a single app for all machines, Mac, iPad and iPhone users will get new features at the same time. The Updates tab also exists to list all the apps that need to be updated. It will now have a new feature called “Shortcut” which could be integrated with other apps to build customized voice commands. The one I’m most excited about is the company’s News app, which is one of the best news aggregators on iOS. Autoplaying video of the apps and games give dynamic previews.
Federighi said that not every iOS app will make sense on a Mac. Also noteworthy, Apple says that it’s working on a way for iOS apps to be ported to the Mac.
Apple News coming to Mac. Safari also presents each Mac in a simplified way, so that when users browse the webs, all Macs look the same. It also flags reused passwords to protect online presence of users.
Apple will offer new screensavers in collaboration with the International Space Station National Lab and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, with new aerials shot from space by NASA astronauts.
Markup has been added to Quick Look too, so now when you highlight a file and press the space bar, you have the option to access to Apple’s editing tools.
Continuity Camera: With this feature, users will be able to scan a document or shoot an image using the iPhone while the same gets added to the document on the Mac.
