New Marvel Shows Every Six Months
Netflix announced at the Television Critics Association summer meeting on Tuesday that it will be rolling out a new Marvel superhero series every six months. Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said that they’d like to release a new season from a Marvel series every six months according to a Variety reporter.
We hope the next Netflix Marvel series will be of the same quality and consistency of Daredevil, and we’re especially excited about Luke Cage, one of my favorite Marvel comics from the ’70’s, and Iron Fist. The miniseries of the same name is a sort of culmination that was first seen on the big screen with “The Avengers“.
Those plans include a premiere of the upcoming Jessica Jones series later this year, earlier than the 2016 release most anticipated.
Fans of Marvel won’t have to wait that long to see more comic book characters on Netflix, however.
The five-time Eisner Award victor assured fans that he’s not just promoting his own work and is actually “going to be hardest on it”. “That’s the beauty of the Marvel universe”, he said related to a Punisher series starring Jon Bernthal. After all, the character’s origin involves his entire family being murdered by the mob.
Sarandos noted that “Daredevil” has been cleared for a second season, but said numerous other details are still being worked out.
He also added “Some will selectively have multiple seasons as they come out of the gate”.
IGN reports that Netflix has already announced that Marvel character The Punisher will be joining Season 2 of Daredevil. “So they’ll probably be two launches a year”. “If we pick up Bendis’ Alias and pickup Daredevil, they’re wildly different”. Based on Brian Michael Bendis’s “R-rated” Alias comics, former superhero Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, has left the world of capes and powers behind after disgusting trauma and now works as a P.I.in Hell’s Kitchen (yes, the same Hell’s Kitchen where Daredevil punches crime in the face). And then finally, “Iron Fist“.
He went on to clarify that any character from Daredevil could spin off into his or her own series.
