Finally, there’s this lovely S-Class Cabriolet which by all accounts should become the new darling of Hollywood’s elite with that all important drop top.
With the new S-Class Cabriolet Mercedes-Benz is setting itself the standard of building the most comfortable cabriolet in the world.
The S-Class Cabriolet shares the long, swooping design of the S-Class Coupe, and features a traditional fabric roof to save weight and space. Features like heated seats, heated arm rests and an automatic intelligent climate control system just add on to all the pizazz surrounding the vehicle.
It’s pictured standing next to its immediate predecessor, the 1971 280 SE; yes, Cyril, that’s right, this will be the first time in 44 years that Mercedes has released a full-sized S-Class convertible. Even back in the 1920s the luxury cabriolets from Stuttgart combined the freedom of open-top motoring with the comfort and safety of a Mercedes-Benz Saloon.
Following the “Ponton” cabriolets 220 S (W 180) and 220 SE (W 128) made between 1956 and 1960, in 1961 the 220 SE Cabriolet of the model series W 111 was flagged off, which was an open-top four-seater.
Another new attraction will be the GLC SUV, directly inspired by the C Class. Unveiled in the spring, it succeeds the GLK and should be in showrooms by November for a starting price around US$39,000 (RM165,263). Early 220 SE models stand at around same level, with a current value of some $84,000.
