New Mexicans honor service members this Veterans Day
A nice crowd braved a gusty wind and gathered for Veterans Day ceremonies at the Salina / Saline County War Memorial in Sunset Park. “That’s the biggest thing we honor-veterans themselves”.
“Many young men and women grew up in homes across America that had relatives who served in World War II”, Bell said.
“It is our veterans who possess quiet, resilient strength of character and faultless loyalty, honor and strength- traits learned and carried while performing their duties as soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsman”. “They did a lot for us and they continue to do a lot for us”, San Jose resident Delongo Turner said.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the change occurred after Americans had been fighting aggression in Korea. During the event, a special thank you went out to the Vietnam Veterans who are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the war.
The parade ran up Fifth Avenue, beginning at 26th Street and ending at 52nd Street.
“I’m certainly thankful to make it out to this Veterans Day celebration and for all the people that made it possible for them [veterans] to come home safe”, he said.
“If you want to get the job done, hire a vet”, Obama said.
Girard served in the Pacific and his military honors include the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Other veterans say it is breathtaking to see so many people coming out and support this cause. “Every death represents moms, dads, brothers and sisters who lost someone they loved”.
