New Orleans medical student shot while trying to stop robbery
Yet another security camera shows Gold drive his auto toward the SUV after apparently seeing the attack on the woman. When Gold said he did not have any, Cain grew angry and shot him in the stomach, according to a police statement.
After an argument about money, the gunman fired a shot into Peter Gold’s stomach before trying to kill him.
The criminal can be seen here pointing the weapon at Gold’s head, which would have resulted in nearly certain death had the gun not malfunctioned. The woman was not injured, accordingto The Times-Picayune.
Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said Cain had given a full confession to the crime that included his actions against both fourth-year medical student Peter Gold and the unidentified woman he was trying to help.
Cain face charges of attempted first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and armed robbery, said police.
Tulane University even offering up a $10,000 reward to anyone who can help crack the troubling case.
They’re looking for 21-year-old Euric Cain, a man they say has a criminal record and should be considered armed and unsafe. She falls down and he rips her purse away.
“The victim explained to the suspect, repeatedly, that he did not have any cash”, the New Orleans Police Department said in a press release.
The top cop in New Orleans has commended Gold who was committing an extremely “selfless act” when he intervened after seeing the woman being dragged early Friday.
Gold, who was driving by, saw it, too.
“I ask that you keep Peter and his family in your thoughts and prayers”.
The woman involved was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries. “We again ask that everyone respect our family’s need for privacy during this hard time”.
“His story has attracted global attention, as people from around the world marvel at his bravery, compassion and strength”, Fitts said. Michele Adams, who taught Gold while he was an undergraduate sociology student, said that she was shocked to hear of the news but was not surprised that Gold would risk his own safety for someone else.
