New Orleans Saints beat Tampa Bay Buccaneers, end four-game skid
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston (12) catches a 1-yard touchdown reception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the second quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Tampa, Fla. Early in the game, the Saints were mixing in Spiller quite a bit, including some packages when they got close to the goal line. He also has forced a career-high two fumbles and has a chance to match his career-best total of three interceptions with one more pick over the Bucs’ final three games. “I think you have to look at the full context of it all and we end up getting the results we did”.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had some things not go our way this year and we’ve made some mistakes along the way”. Winston threw a TD and ran for one as the Bucs snapped a seven-game slide to the Saints with a 26-19 victory in Week 2. “First off – how many plays? time of possession? – there are a lot of things instead of just Doug didn’t get the ball that many times”. “You want to make people happy and make people happy that supported you and been in your corner to be able to give them something to cheer for and be proud of”. “All the way around it was really a great team win”. With Mark Ingram out, veteran RB Tim Hightower got the tough yards for the offense, while Drew Brees was sharp at 31-of-41 for 312 yards and two scores. But in losses, the Bucs have racked up 5.1 yards per carry, compared to 4.6 in wins. He’s gaining rapport with his wideouts, and lookie here, a revitalized passing game has opened up the running lanes for Doug Martin.
Jameis Winston threw a fourth-quarter TD pass to Adam Humphries to trim a 14-point deficit to 24-17. Winston had time to throw, but the Saints did affect him at times with their coverage down field.
Next, in what will, for most, be their league’s championship game, the Saints will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tight end Brandon Myers is inactive as the fourth tight end, Ryan Griffin is not dressed as the third quarterback and linebacker Jeremiah George, a regular on special teams, is inactive for the first time this season. But Martin, who had 81 yards on only 11 carries, never saw the football again. Spiller and Hightower are two completely different running backs, with Spiller bringing speed and Hightower bringing power, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Defensively, offensively, special teams, we didn’t. He had a long of 53 and had two punts inside the 20 to offset a pair of touchbacks. When that’s happened under Sean Payton, it’s pretty much a guaranteed win.
