New Orleans Saints Rumors: CJ Spiller Slams Mark Ingram Rotation as Willie
It hasn’t worked out that way. Sports has a very interesting article today about the future of Sean Payton in New Orleans. Fellow running back Khiry Robinson contributed 56 carries for 180 yards (3.2 avg.) with four touchdowns prior to sustaining a season-ending injury.
“I was just hoping that my shoulder would make it through that season”, he says. Obviously, there has to be a reason behind it…. But those numbers are right on par with what the Tennessee Titans do and we know how that tuned out last week. He’s on pace to be flirting with his first 1,000-yard season, sitting eighth in the National Football League with 584 rushing yards.
Through nine games, the Saints (4-5) have five different players with at least 30 receptions.
But his role has been limited since then. More than halfway through the season, he has 22 carries for 86 yards (3.9) average and 24 catches for 198 yards.
Tennessee’s 34 points nearly matched its total of 36 for the previous four games.
“When we had the multiple running backs (Ingram, Robinson and Spiller), sometimes the challenge by game was getting him carries, ” coach Sean Payton said. The aging of Drew Brees and the ongoing ownership battle between owner Tom Benson and his daughter, Renee Benson, could lead to a few drastic changes and a certain fall from grace, which might have already begun. “Mark’s typically been our protecting back”.
Tight ends have caught 13 of 15 passes for six touchdowns in the red zone against the Saints this season, but they’re 6-of-6 with a pair of scores in the last three games.
Spiller’s impact has been negligible.
“It’s really nothing” Spiller is doing wrong, Brees said. And why would it make sense to seek life elsewhere when there’s plenty going on right here at home?
METAIRIE, La. – New Orleans Saints quarterback Matt Flynn had been on Twitter just one week before he mastered the art. Flynn tweeted out a picture of his consolation Bloody Mary after being released by the NY Jets in September.
Nose tackle Terrance Knighton said that if the Redskins can be disruptive early, though, that could swing the advantage in the Redskins’ favor.
Maybe you’re thinking of the interception Brees threw yesterday, which was bad, which hurt the team, but which, given his overall performance and the depths to which this defense has sunk yet again, is something like complaining about your dinner as you cling to the sinking bow of the Titanic.
Lately, that spot has been on the sideline.
I know the Saints are ranked in the bottom of nearly every defensive category, but they are not facing an offense that can light it up. “It’s nothing new to me”.
-QB Garrett Grayson was active for the first time this season because Luke McCown was unavailable for Sunday’s game.
