The new photos also show Dick Cheney watching news reports about the attacks on a TV in his office, and his trip on Marine Two to Camp David.
This image shows Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney in conference in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. Over 10 years ago, Hannam filed the FOIA request, but it wasn’t until last month that the National Archives responded with the photos, taken by the vice president’s photographer.
The National Archives on Friday released more than 350 never-before seen photos of former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, along with top members of the Bush administration, on September 11, 2001, as they reacted to the most deadly attack in terrorism in American history. Reported by the Mirror, this highly-secure underground bunker under the East Wing of the White House could withstand a nuclear attack.
The images, released by the US National Archives in response to a Freedom of Information request, capture the reaction of Goverment officials after 9/11 terror attacks.
President Bush with Vice President Cheney in the President’s Emergency Operations Center. Both towers later collapsed. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon and a fourth was brought down in Pennsylvania. In total, 2,996 people killed. A photo taken later that day shows a concerned-looking Bush conferring with his colleagues on his return to the White House.
