New poll suggests Londoners cooling on Uber
The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.7%, 19/20.
Torontonians have a tender spot for Uber in comparison with most of their city Canadian counterparts, polling knowledge exhibits. Ottawa had the highest level of confidence in taxi safety in the survey, which also took in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and London, Ont.
Many Torontonians support Uber Taxi, but feel regular taxis are safer, according to a recent poll by Mainstreet/Post Media.
“While Uber has the edge in Toronto, the battle hasn’t been won yet”. “Uber needs to walk a fine line of expansion and conciliation if it wants to build and maintain support in this city”. “But feelings toward taxis are still positive and people want cabs and Uber to get along”.
Ottawa turned out to have the highest proportion-50%-of respondents who dubbed Uber safe, a perception shared by 48% in Toronto, 47% in Montreal, and only 29% in London.
Half the respondents said that the city should get rid of taxi licences, which have been purchased on the street for hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases: 34 per cent said the licences should be abolished with compensation from the city; 16 per cent said they should be abolished without compensation. Among those 18-24, 73 per cent supported the ride-sharing service, compared with only 22 per cent of those 65 and older.
Respondents were also strongly in favour of Uber playing by existing rules, with 63 per cent saying Uber should have the same regulations as taxis.
“While Uber is not universally loved, it continues to find support among a critical mass of Torontonians, especially younger people”, Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet, said in a release. “The generational gap in support for Uber reflects the fact that young people are quite simply, much more familiar with it”.
Meanwhile, 70 per cent of those surveyed in the city are following the issue surrounding Uber and taxis closely.
For its part, Uber has said that it would be open to participating in the creation of new ridesharing regulations to cover the Uber X service.
The poll is considered accurate for Edmonton respondents within plus or minus 2.89 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
