New Rumor: Cavs Pursuing Jamal Crawford
At this stage of the offseason teams usually make only minor adjustments, but Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers seems to be on the shortlist of quite a few teams heading into next season, with the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers very interested in making a trade for him. Moreover, Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers have also expressed their desire to have Crawford.
Crawford is signed through the 2015-16 season, where he is set to earn .675 million, according to Spotrac, something that might throw a wrench in this possible deal, as former Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks broke down on Twitter. However, the Knicks aren’t exactly in good shape when it comes to trade assets.
On the surface you can see the logic there for the Knicks, adding that kind of scoring depth gives them a boost, and for a bubble playoff team in the East that could be enough to put them over the hump.
Most importantly, Crawford already has experience in a Knicks uniform. He averaged 15.8 points in 64 games last season for the Clippers. He was ultimately traded to the Golden State Warriors early in the 2008-09 campaign.
Crawford has played for six teams over 15 seasons.
Both Anthony and Crawford tend to dominate control of the ball when they’re on the floor, and whilst that may have worked for their respective teams, it would take them time to learn how to play more off-ball when they’re on the court together.
If the Knicks were able to get Crawford, he would continue to come off the bench as he has for the majority of his career.
The Clippers want to trade Crawford in order to save money against the luxury tax and also because they don’t really need him anymore. He has never been a knock down long range shooter, 35% for his career, but his offensive skillset has been dynamite, especially when asked to be a sparkplug off the bench.
While the Knicks have interest there is no indication that a deal is imminent as the Cavaliers reportedly still have interest as do the Miami Heat.
