New Star Wars created to Evoke Feelings of Original Trilogy
Chris Mabire, owner of Canvas Gallery, said: “Marvel and Star Wars are two iconic brands which have individually had a huge impact on today’s popular culture”.
And Katherine, about those “unattractive” Star Wars fans?
Okay, so it’s a little more than pretty good.
Fandango tells Variety that the picture is the biggest pre-seller in the history of the ticketing company, trumping the first “Hunger Games”. With less than a month to go before the movie is released worldwide (finally), it’s already breaking box office records.
The previous record was held by The Dark Knight, pulling in around $25 million.
However, both outlets are quick to point out the downside of this situation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Force Awakens” has surpassed the $50 million mark in advance tickets in North America. Experts are betting that the title will easily exceed the opening weekend’s record of $209 million, which was established by Universal Studios’ Jurassic World earlier this year. “In the era of online ticket sales, we haven’t seen a movie like this”. J.J. Abrams’ film will hit United Kingdom cinema screens on Thursday, December 17 followed by theatres in the U.S. on Friday, December 18. This means it’ll also shatter The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’s seemingly paltry million December record.
I know, it’s a insane idea, but you have to admit if there’s one movie that can hope to take down James Cameron’s opus, it’s most definitely the return of Han Solo and Chewbacca. What’s working in Star Wars’ favor is studios not adjusting for inflation (otherwise, the highest-grossing movie of all-time would be Gone with the Wind) and its lack of competition.
Several theaters are reportedly staying open for longer hours to accommodate streams of waiting fans during the film’s first week of release, including additional screenings for 2AM and 5AM.
