New The Force Awakens TV spot
When it comes to the new “Star Wars” character Maz Kanata, watch the eyes.
“No one forgot about him!” “We were hoping people would care, but there are a lot of things that are not on the poster, as busy as the poster is”, Abrams said.
Abrams suggested that the trailer released in late October would be the last we would see of the movie before its release on December 17, but it looks like the director, whose penchant for secrecy and mastery of hype is well-known to fans of Lost and Star Trek, has fooled us again.
The 23-year-old gave a speech to pupils in which he advised them: “Nurture your interests and feed them with hard work”. “You have to understand who the character is and what makes them who they are”, she says. “They’d be characters who they might believe existed, or just sounded like a fairy tale”. “Her eyes are an important aspect of her character, and you’ll see how it plays out”.
“I had this pitch about these goggles that she wore”, Abrams told Entertainment Weekly.
The spot shows that eyes really are the key to the soul and that Kanata’s eyes will play a key role in who she is as a character. “Committed as ever to her cause, but I would imagine feeling somewhat defeated, tired, and pissed”. But for a little tease, he revealed that she lives in a castle with a band of misfits because she was a pirate for a long time. She’s had this watering hole for about a century, and it’s like another bar that you’d find in a corner of the Star Wars universe….All that backstory will be forthcoming.
The Force Awakens picks up the story some three decades after the events of the preceding Star Wars chapter, Return of the Jedi, and small grains of plot leaked plot detail suggest the power vacuum created when the Rebel Alliance toppled the Empire has left the galaxy in chaos.
