Well, The Final Girls looks like it takes cues from some of the greatest slightly cheesy horror movies of all time and puts a comical bent onto them, and then infuses them with my other love – television! With plenty of jokes about bad writing, fake blood, and the fact that “everyone who has sex in this movie dies”, The Final Girls aims to please cinephiles and ’80s nostalgists. They know their horror movies, after all. Through a series of unfortunate events, Max and her friends (including Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat, and Nina Dobrev) end up in the world of the film and must use the rules of the slasher genre to try to survive.
Max is played by actress Taissa Farmiga, who is known for her starring role in the first season of American Horror Story.
While the characters of Scream thought themselves clever for knowing the rules of horror, this troop of teens are forced to put those ideas into practice when confronted with the reality of the situation. The trailer only hints at this underlying plot, but it seems this is where the movies true drama will lie, as Max and her friends attempt to save her mother from the camp’s resident killer Billy and his machete. With the body count rising in scene after iconic scene, who will be the final girls left standing and live to escape this film?
A trailer’s dropped for the latest film cut in the tradition, entitled The Final Girls.
