New Valencia boss Gary Neville reveals he consulted Sir Alex Ferguson AFTER
New Valencia coach Gary Neville has said that the challenge of managing the La Liga side was so enticing that he could not afford to turn it down.
The elder of the Neville brothers was recently announced as Valencia’s head coach after Nuno Espirito Santo stepped down from the job after a loss to rivals Sevilla.
The ESPN FC crew delve into Gary Neville’s appointment as the new Valencia manager until the end of this season. I think he will do well, he’s going to be a success’. “Turning this job down would have been to lose credibility”.
The ex-England worldwide added: “Tomorrow when I’m in the dugout, it will be a brilliant experience and one that I’m really looking forward to”.
“I understand through playing here many years ago the passion and intimidation of the fans here – and I intend to try to recreate that with the players again in the coming months”.
“I spoke to him; he came over to my house”.
In a rather surprising revelation, newly appointed Valencia boss Gary Neville has named Jack Wilshere as the player he has enjoyed coaching the most. I’ve played against some excellent Valencia players.
“I won’t be making any short decisions here”. At the moment I have the problem of finding a teacher to get up at 6am every day. “I will promote from within and I’m not interested in bringing over an army of coaches”.
“My family will move over here permanently”.
“Roy was incredibly supportive, positive and enthusiastic for me”, he said.
While already fulfilling the assistant job with the English national team, Neville has given himself the best chance of taking over the coveted top job with his foray into Spanish football.
A late goal from Santi Mina earned Valencia an unlikely point against the Catalans, who missed a host of opportunities to kill the game off.
“I will expect players to assist – at Old Trafford players were excellent in enabling new people to settle in”. It’s easy to make decisions on young players too soon and say we need to sign players.
“He needs to adapt as quickly as possible to the Spanish culture because it is completely different to England – the style of football, the philosophy, the speed of play, the mentality of the fans, the culture of the media”, he said.
