New virtual reality headset Oculus Rift will set you back $599
Oculus CEO Palmer Luckey will field questions-and likely many complaints about the Rift’s price-during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit at 9 p.m. ET tonight. And like all Rift pre-order purchasers, you’ll receive a bundled copy of Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.
Oculus has announced, via its official blog, that it will be opening up pre-orders for the Oculus Rift starting on Wednesday.
Surprisingly absent from the blog post was the price of the Rift.
The likes of Russian Federation and South Korea are also still waiting on news as to when the Oculus Rift will hit their countries. And it will start being available from 6 January, the company has said.
By February 2015, the company had shipped more than 100,000 second-generation kits to its growing fanbase. The firm has said the finished consumer-ready headset should be in the “same ballpark” as the $350 cost of its earlier prototypes. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund development of their first product, the Oculus Rift, a ground-breaking vir… The price gets you the Rift headgear, headset with built in microphone, input devices and an Xbox One controller.
In September 2015, Oculus and Samsung Electronics unveiled a new version of Gear VR virtual reality headset for $99.
The pre-order page features a cost of $599 (£410), but going through to the check out page in the United Kingdom shows that the Rift headset will set consumers on this side of the pond back £499.
