New X-Files book series will give Mulder and Scully origin stories
Strong ratings for The X-Files revival all but assure Fox’s interest in continuing the series in some form, but as of now, nothing is official. Instead, the books follow young Dana and Fox in 1979.
No matter what the issues are that are preventing the future of The X-Files from being decided at this time, it definitely seems as if David Duchovny is confident that he and his team are at least interested in trying to make it work. Presumably the books won’t just be about teen Mulder complaining about his sister being taken by aliens or Scully doing a buttload of revision for her studies and med school prep (which would be kind of hilarious, but not great book material).

Maberry’s novels include Assassin’s Code, Dead of Night, Patient Zero, and Rot & Ruin. So, instead of getting another season next January, these two books will arrive in that same frame next year.
In a teaser clip released ahead of the finale, that airs at 8 p.m. Monday on Fox, a battered and bruised Fox Mulder is seen holding a gun to the head of Cigarette Smoking Man, while Dana Scully is faced with an epidemic that’s killing everyone.
