New York couple welcomes rare identical triplets
The birth of identical triplets through natural means is incredibly rare; doctors say the chances of it happening are about one in a million. The boys, born Wednesday, July 1, were introduced to the world by their parents on Thursday, Fox5NY reported.
Owen Michael, Noah Charles and Miles John each weighed a little over 2 pounds when they were born reports CBS New York.
Kelli Fenley, 33, gave birth to the identical triplets at Winthrop University Hospital on July 1, reports CBS New York and WCBS Radio.
The family did not use fertility drugs. The Fenley family said they will let go of the color-coding scheme in the next few years or when the triplets’ true personalities finally show.
Jason Fenley said he always used to say that instead of hitting the money lottery they hit the genetic lottery. The couple initially expected twins until Kelli’s physician confirmed triplets during the latter part of her pregnancy. The couple said they came across their exceptional conception in an early sonogram. “One’s blue, one’s gray, one’s green… one of their toenails is painted that particular color and we like to keep them when we dress them in the same color”, Fenley explained.
To the Fenleys the babies are triple the blessing.
His wife Kelli, a 33-year-old assistant principal at a special needs school in Queens, spent more than 50 days at the hospital leading up to the delivery.
Now, comes three of everything and in time three college tuitions. Her husband, Jason, just kept saying to himself, “How are we going to pay for this?”
Right now, the parents are getting help from Kelli’s sister, Nicole Roche, and Jason’s mother.
