New York Giants off the mark with win over Washington Redskins
The Giants are like a lot of the New York metropolitan area.
The New York Giants finally got a victory over their division rival, the Washington Redskins, by a score of 32-21.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions that ended up the difference by setting up one New York touchdown and costing Washington another. “I’ve got to find a way to clean those up”. “We nearly had the first one blocked, and they came out to block the second one”.
Fellow receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said, “He’s capable of doing that every single time”.
“I felt like for a couple weeks he has been coming on and carrying more and more like himself”, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “You’d like to think you can finish the game with the ball in your hands, and we would certainly like to erase the kickoff return against”. “He’ll be running all weekend and we’re hoping that there’s nothing but straight ahead positives in all his activities and we’ll see next week if we can get him on the practice field”.
Beckham caught seven passes for 79 yards and that score from Manning while the much-maligned defense smothered Washington’s vaunted running game in Thursday’s 32-21 victory in prime time before a crowd of 76,081 at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants (1-2) fell apart in the fourth quarter of losses to Dallas and Atlanta.
At the start of the season head coach Jay Gruden tried to put any quarterback controversy to rest by saying that the Redskins were Kirk Cousins team. In both their opening loss to the Cowboys and the next loss to the Falcons, they controlled the proceedings for most of the game and then let fourth quarter leads slip away.
The Redskins (1-2) had a big opportunity with 9:42 left in the game.
Washington’s talented rushing tandem of Alfred Morris (6 carries for 19 yards) and rookie Matt Jones (11 carries for 38 yards) were held to a combined 57 yards. With just under 10 minutes left to play, he fumbled the ball out of bounds in the end zone for a touchback.
Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins (8) throws a pass…
“I thought Eli was in control the entire game tonight, did a nice job getting us in and out of runs, checking the protections – even some of the route combinations”.
Amukamara’s first-quarter, 4-yard interception of Cousins set up the Williams touchdown. However, during Thursday’s game against the Redskins, Williams had a notable performance where he rushed 14 times for 29 yards in total, and a touchdown in the first quarter. Their only points of the half came on field goals of 44 and 37 yards by kicker Dustin Hopkins.
Brown was ideal on the night with three field goals and three extra points.
But four days later against the New York Giants, Washington found out that when teams shut down the run, they have to rely on the quarterback to make plays.
He spoke about how he expected to be moved around in the formation, and it would help him get better chances to produce after two very quiet games. “I can’t give you all my secrets, but you just anticipate. So I’m most proud, obviously, of what we’ve accomplished as a team”, Brady said this week as the Patriots prepared for the Jaguars.
