New York Giants will hire Ben McAdoo as head coach

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is no longer a candidate for the head coaching position of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Earlier, the Cleveland Browns, who shared the league’s worst record last season at 3-13, appointed former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson as their new head coach. With two games remaining in that year, the Giants fired LeRoy Andrews as head coach and replaced him with co-coaches.

“We were all impressed with his energy, his enthusiasm, his vision and his desire”, Giants president and co-owner John Mara said. “I think Coach McAdoo is a great coach, a great teacher, and will be a great leader of this team”, said Manning, who voiced his support for McAdoo after the season. “And I think it was an honor for him to have that opportunity”. The Giants may have missed out there, but McAdoo is familiar with what his team has and he had worked under Coughlin for a number of years.

“I’m excited we hired Coach McAdoo as the head coach, ” Schwartz said. Under McAdoo’s tutelage, Manning cut down on turnovers – he threw 14 touchdowns each of the past two years – and upped his efficiency, managing 63.1 and 62.6 completion percentages and 92.1 and 93.6 quarterback ratings, respectively, between 2014 and 2015.

McAdoo’s hiring as the 17th coach of the Giants comes with the blessing of quarterback Eli Manning.

Given that Coughlin seems to be the third candidate, behind McAdoo and Adam Gase, that the team was most interested in, if they end up with Shurmur or Doug Pederson, that really would speak to a dysfunctional coaching process.

“He has demonstrated some of that intensity, exhibiting a Coughlin-level focus during practices and in meetings. I’m excited about that staying the same”. Did the Eagles offer him the job but he didn’t want it?

The Eagles requested an interview with Paul Guenther, defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, who were eliminated from the wild card round of the playoffs by the Pittsburgh Steelers. “Although he hasn’t been calling the plays, Shurmur coached under Kelly for the past three seasons, and knows the offense”.

“He possesses similar qualities to Tom Coughlin, from what I’ve seen, ” cornerback Prince Amukamara said in a text message.

McAdoo will be formally introduced Friday at 10:30 a.m.in a news conference at the Giants’ facility in East Rutherford.
