New York Jets: Geno Smith ‘Kind Of Pissed Off’ About Fitzpatrick Deal
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick described his six-month contract dispute as a taxing ordeal, but he’s pleased with the outcome and glad it was resolved in time for the first team meeting.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team had not yet announced the signing. “It was huge. That’s why you play the game. So, for me that’s the added pressure, just internally, in this building, that’s what it is as a starting quarterback anyway but that would be the main pressure I feel”. I wanted something that was fair and reasonable.
While waiting for Fitzpatrick, the Jets also explored other options, including bringing in Robert Griffin III, who later signed with Cleveland, and Brian Hoyer, who signed with Chicago. I told him, Thats a $12 million fine.. “I’m not going to allow this situation – because it’s not the worst situation I’ve been in – to deter me from my ultimate goal”.
New York’s initial offer was a three-year, $24 million contract ($16 million guaranteed) which was never considered by Fitzpatrick.
Taking the field to theme song from the hit 1970s sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter”, Fitzpatrick heard loud cheers when he connected with Marshall on a deep pass down the sideline.
“I’m just happy we have everybody in camp which gives us a chance to get some camaraderie, get down some chemistry”. Sheldon Richardson will be suspended for a game, but when he returns in week two, the Jets’ defensive line will be as talented as any in the NFL. The 3,905 passing yards he threw last season was also the 2nd-most in Jets history. I know it’s early to tell rite now, but mark my words I can see the Jets going to the post season! “I thought for the most part it was good that it stayed behind closed doors”. So here ya go, guys: $11 million a year, with some easy-benchmark incentives if Fitz repeats last year’s production. “They were in my corner all offseason so for me, I’ve got to go out and preform for those guys in the locker room”. He’s not a quarterback that will scare you, but he did have a career season in 2015 and helped the Jets to a 10-6 record that almost had the team in the playoffs.
The Rams announced the move one day before their veterans report to training camp for their homecoming season in Southern California. “I know how far along I’ve come since the time I walked into this building for the first time”.
