New York Jets lose a close one on the road
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 72 yards in 3-for-4 passes. Petty, who would seem to be the quarterback most in danger of losing his roster spot, made the most of that playing time Friday by completing 16 of 26 passes for 242 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Also, while the run defense wasn’t great, without Mo Wilkerson and the young linebackers still learning, this defense and all the schemes not going to be shown until the regular season, I won’t be overreacting.
Petty said after the game that his focus each day is to make this a tough decision for the Jets. Some of the explosive plays that he’s had out here in camp, we’ve got to get him the ball too.
In contrast what did the New York Jets star players gain against Washington?
“It was me because we got the “W, ‘ so I’m definitely going to hold these bragging right against him for a while”, Sudfeld said with a smile”.
While he likely isn’t in jeopardy to lose his roster spot since he’s the only one of the three backups with any National Football League regular-season playing experience, a good performance against the Giants – whenever he gets in – would go a long way into re-establishing his position on the depth chart.
Even though the Washington Redskins rested several key starters, they couldn’t avoid injuries in their second preseason game.
The New York Jets look to build on their 17-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener as they take to the road to face off with the Washington Redskins on Friday. He later connected with rookie wide receiver Robby Anderson on two long throws of 50 yards and 42 yards, the latter a touchdown.
“I didn’t say there wasn’t any competition”, Bowles told reporters, via ESPN. But Petty has closed the gap during training camp. “I didn’t know whether to be excited or upset, so I was just trying to focus on what I had to do in the game”.
Here are five players who performed well last night for the Jets. “I think I could’ve played a lot better”.
“When I threw it I couldn’t really see how he caught it”, said Sudfeld.
Well, preseason game No. 2 apparently has changed things.
Smith admitted it was “one of those plays you wish you could have back”.
Despite struggling under center, Geno Smith remains positive heading in to next weeks game against the Giants. “I wanted to see Dunbar play against [Jets receiver] Brandon Marshall and some of those guys from the Jets”.
Smith’s primary advantage lies in his experience; he was the Jets’ starter for 29 games between 2013-14. “I want to throw every flawless pass”.
The Jets are a veteran, win-now outfit, but judging by the recent play of some of its youngsters, they’re showing they can also offer help.
