New York Jets’ Todd Bowles: ‘Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue as starter’
I might end up regretting those words. They understand that too, but I’m not going to temper them from being excited. It’s coach Bowles’ team. We’re not there yet, but we’re making great strides and nobody is going to be good coming right off the top. We’ll try to get better.
The New York Jets will be rolling with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback going forward.
-PASS DEFENSE: A-minus – That’s more like it. The Jets harassed Colts QB Andrew Luck, who wasn’t sacked but was constantly under siege during his fifth career three-interception game but just his second since 2013. He is not flashy, but does just enough to complement the ferocious Jets defense. That’s a departure from the smoke-and-mirrors approach of the previous four seasons when getting sacks and hurries were a weekly goal but rarely a weekly accomplishment.
What has really stood out about the Jets defense is their ability to force fumbles.
Six weeks later, Bowles’ words carry more weight.
But Bowles clarified Wednesday that he doesn’t view this as a significant hurdle, because offensive coordinator Chan Gailey can still give Smith a modified set of plays, if Smith needs to play. Bowles said even when he is fully healthy, Smith is going to need time to get back into the swing of things.
Two games, two wins. The Jets rumors address that even when Geno Smith returns from his injury, the team will stick with Fitzpatrick.
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t be returning to the bench anytime soon, if ever. The 32-year old is 37-for-68 for 423 yards in the Jets first two games, with two touchdowns and an interception in each game.
Now the Jets at 2-0 are enjoying their best start since 2011 moving into Week 3.
After today’s news, not only has Smith lost his job in New York, he may be hard-pressed to become a starter with another team in the future.
Enter “FitzMagic” and “Machine”. Ivory finished with 57 yards on 14 carries against the Colts.
The Jets and their fans exhaled and the Colts never recovered.
Fitzpatrick could be without a key receiving option in Eric Decker, however.
Geno Smith still isn’t ready to play as he continues to heal from a fractured jaw. Smith, an integral part of Ohio State’s national championship last season, has been out since the early part of training camp due to broken ribs. With Fitzpatrick’s age-and if the Jets find themselves out of playoff contention-don’t be surprised if Smith gets another chance to show the reported improvement he had during the offseason.
He said having Revis back in the fold has made a difference.
