New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Derek Fisher
Fisher may have won the battle, but Barnes won the war by throwing shade at the former Knicks head coach.
“Not for a second”, Jackson said when asked if he thought about moving to the bench.
Carmelo Anthony’s future will certainly be a huge factor in the team’s future, and even if he remains in NY, the Knicks will likely be undergoing the transition of building the organization around young star Kristaps Porzingis and a new head coach over the summer. Yet, Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes got the last laugh with a simple photo on Instagram.
“Not one second”, Jackson said when asked if he’d come out of retirement. “That was embarrassing for us and for Derek, but that had nothing to do with what”s happened here (Monday).”.
“He’ll go on to be a coach again”, Bryant said before Monday night’s game at Indiana. “It isn’t paramount, but at some point I’m going to have a relationship with someone who’s coaching this team”.
They had the look of a playoff team most of the season but are stumbling into the All-Star break.
NY lost to the Denver Nuggets 101-96 on Sunday at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks’ season-high fifth straight loss and their ninth in the last 10 games. That October weekend odyssey was Fisher’s choice, and the blame for it all – including the failure to return to NY in time to conduct a Knicks practice – belongs to him. Bickerstaff. Lionel Hollins got the boot in Brooklyn after a terrible start and was replaced by Tony Brown.
“This is a very talented team with strong character and I am confident they will succeed”, Fisher said. When the team parted ways with Mike Woodson, I was hoping that Jackson would go after coach with more experience in the league. He was a member of eight National Basketball Association championship teams, all as a member of the Lakers (four as a player and four as a coach or executive). But Kerr picked the Golden State Warriors over the Knicks. His coaching tree is too small, too unaccomplished to cling so tightly to it. Rambis and Brian Shaw have no business as candidates to coach the Knicks – but there’s a world of Jackson sycophants that delivers the idea credibility.
I don’t think Knicks fans would necessarily want Rodman as their head coach, but I think it would be hilarious. We’ve had conflicts, we’ve had disagreements and we know how to work things out.
