New York Mets acquire Eric Young Jr. from Atlanta Braves
Due to the team heading down the stretch – and eventually needing some speed during these tight pennant race games – Sandy Alderson has gone out and acquired speedster Eric Young Jr. from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations.
Curtis Granderson now leads the Mets with 10 stolen bases, and if Young is promoted to the majors he should help in that regard.
Young is set to report to Triple-A Las Vegas sometime in the coming week. Young had managed a woeful.169/.229/.273 line through 85 plate appearances and accepted a demotion to Triple-A Gwinnett. This flaw in his game has limited him from being an everyday player.
Of course, Young previously played with the Mets from 2013-2014 while batting.242/.310/.321 with 68 stolen bases over 191 games.
Assistant General Manager John Ricco spoke highly of the move, saying, “He’s a guy we know pretty well”. In limited time this season with Atlanta, Young Jr. hit just. 169 in 77 at-bats. He knew his role and he got ready to play.
Saying that is a dimension the Mets don’t have could be an understatement from Collins. There’s not one Met who’s capable of stealing a base on a minute’s notice.
