New York Mets Manager Terry Collins Remains Hospitalized After Missing Sunday’s Game
Matt Duffy homered in the bottom of the first, sending an 0-1 pitch into the left-field bleachers for just the fifth long ball given up by Los Angeles’ ace, and Buster Posey hit a tying double in the sixth.
Zach Davies was outstanding once again as he limited the New York Mets to one run in six plus innings and the Brewers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as the Brewers hung on to beat the Mets 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
Assistant GM John Ricco told reporters that Collins, 67, felt ill about 30 minutes before the game and would undergo tests at the hospital. “I know that”, Ricco said. “They took him over to Froedtert Hospital just for some tests just to make sure there is nothing wrong with him”.
Ricco said the exam was precautionary in nature and that bench coach Dick Scott would handle Collins’ duties Sunday against the Brewers…. He followed with a single to shallow center that scored Hill and moved Gennett to third, then quickly stole second to put two runners in scoring position for Davies. Puig has been working in the batting cage on “shortening his stroke”, manager Dave Roberts said. NY had the potential go-ahead run up with two on and two outs in the eighth, but Ryan Braun made a diving catch of Wilmer Flores’ sinking liner in left to end the inning.
Peralta was a 17-game victor in 2014 but struggled to a 5-10 record last season.
Mets: Second baseman Neil Walker got the day off after leaving Saturdays game with a sore back…. As of right now, it is unsure of whether Collins will be back in time to manage. He is 3-0 in six road starts.
Collins is reportedly feeling fine after remaining in the hospital overnight for observation, but it is unclear if he will be able to manage the Mets on Tuesday. It has been noted that it was one of the worst games played by the Mets so far this season. He is 1-3 in five career outings – three starts – vs. L.A.
