A newborn was found buried alive in Los Angeles near a riverbed that runs along a bike path. The baby girl is now in the hospital after she was discovered beneath asphalt and rubble, according to ABC News.
Deputies rescued a baby girl that was found near a riverbed in Compton on Friday, Nov. 28, 2015.
Around 4 p.m., Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at the Compton Station received a phone call from Evangelina McCrary and Angelica Blount about a baby crying in the riverbed near 136th Street and Slater Avenue.
Inside a crevice on a bike path along the riverbank, they found a newborn girl, buried under pieces of asphalt and rubble. Deputies said the newborn would not be alive if it weren’t for the women who heard the its cries. She is believed to have been born within the last 36 to 48 hours, according to the sheriff’s department.
Detectives investigating the abandonment and endangerment of the newborn girl discovered on Friday asked anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau at 877-710-5273.
“Some parents of newborns can find themselves in hard circumstances”. After being treated by Compton Fire Department paramedics, she was taken to a hospital where she remained under observation Saturday.
Under Los Angele’s Baby Safe Surrender program, new moms or anyone with lawful custody can drop off a newborn within 72 hours of the baby’s birth.
